Riverside Virtual School (RVS) is a tuition-free, public school that offers high-quality, interactive online classes for students in Southern California. Developing partnerships between the Riverside Unified School District and other districts in California are beginning to expand access to high-quality online courses for students in rural schools of the State. Innovative leadership and planning allows school districts to offer increased access to online learning resources in traditional face-to-face classrooms, as well as provide a complete curriculum in grades 3 – 12 for homeschooled students.
It is the RVS mission to provide a rigorous, college-preparatory online school program that meets the needs of 21st century learners; preparing graduates for successful careers in a competitive global marketplace. Riverside Virtual School is currently enrolling students in our full-time program for the 2012-2013 school year. Current RUSD students seeking a full-time online school program, as well as homeschoolers and/or students who qualify for an inter-district transfers from Riverside, Imperial, Orange, San Diego, and San Bernardino counties, may apply to begin classes at RVS at any time. Program for Home Schooled Students: An increasing number of families are considering alternatives to traditional classroom-based instruction for meeting the learning needs of their students. The Riverside Virtual School supports parental choice, while providing access to a rigorous, standards-based, college preparatory curriculum in grades 3 – 12. The unique blended learning environment experienced by RVS students also provides access to experiential school activities such as fine and performing arts programs, school-based athletics, links to institutions of higher learning, and community mentor programs.
RVS works with districts and school sites to develop additional ways for students to access digital learning resources, including from within traditional brick-and-mortar classrooms and as extended-day learning opportunities..
Tutorial services are provided for students enrolled in Centralized courses and are available for access by students enrolled in Hosted and Distributed courses
Curriculum alignment services provide a means for school districts to develop online courses that mirror their face-to-face classrooms and incorporate board adopted materials.
